Pediatric & Integrative Medicine
Bruce Boynton, MD, MPH, FAAP, CCHP, CCA
In 2012 I got a medical wake up call.
Although I had studied in the finest universities in the country and practiced medicine for over 35 years, I was unprepared for what was about to happen.I had yet another respiratory infection, not a cold but near pneumonia. I had had pneumonia multiple times before and the doctors I went to were unable to determine the cause. During one bout of pneumonia I coughed so hard I prolapsed a disc in my spine. During another I gave myself a hernia. In desperation I began taking antibiotics whenever I got a cough and fever. But still the infections continued.
I decided to try something new. Since western medicine was not helping I turned to Traditional Chinese Medicine. During my first treatment my fever subsided, my head cleared, my cough stopped and I felt my energy returning. And did it ever return. The following day I visited a national park and was so filled with energy that I could not walk, I had to run up the mesa. I continued the treatments and was completely well, without even a cold, for 17 months.
How could this be? I couldn’t understand it. I began taking classes in Traditional Chinese Medicine and participating in acupuncture clinics. I saw people healed in ways I could not explain, and I began to question some of the things I was taught in medical school. Maybe drugs are not always the best medicine. Maybe there were other ways of healing that were equally effective. Maybe western science did not have all the answers. I decided to see for myself.
I embarked on a study of Massage Therapy, Asian Healing Arts, Aromatherapy and Functional Medicine and have seen people’s lives changed in ways I could only have imagined. I am convinced that these therapies, many of which have been around for thousands of years, have a great deal to offer people today.
My goal is to help my patients and their families lead healthier, happier and more productive lives using education and natural products when we can and pharmaceuticals when we must. I look forward to joining you on this journey.
